Purpose

The Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship recognizes outstanding academic achievement of students pursuing graduate studies in Alberta. It was established to incent the best and the brightest students, including international students, to study in Alberta. The number of awards available within each faculty is based on the previous years' full-time enrollments. There are funds designated for Domestic/permanent residents, FNMI, and International students

• Must be in good standing in your program not on extension (FNMI students on extension are eligible however preference will be given to those within their program time)

As accomplished scholars, Board of Governors (BoG) Research Chairs are role models who play leadership roles in their field of expertise, stimulate growth in the research enterprise, and are dedicated to the training of the next generation of highly qualified professionals.
The Board of Governors Graduate Student Research Scholarship program is intended to recruit and retain graduate students who have demonstrated, or who have shown potential for, exceptional scholarly distinction. This scholarship aims to foster excellence in research, performance and other scholarly or creative activity.

• $5,000 per year (renewable) up to two years for Masters or four years for Doctoral students

The University of Lethbridge Graduate Research Award (ULGRA) is intended to facilitate nuance and flexibility in the financial support of graduate students at the University of Lethbridge housed within approved departments (see below). All students applying for admission to a full or part time thesis program are automatically considered for ULGRA funding.

• Units of $3,000 per annum may be offered to an individual up to a maximum of 7 units ($21,000) per annum

• Payable over 3 terms in equal installments upon confirmation of enrolment in a thesis program at U of L after the add/drop deadline.

Eligibility

• Admitted to or continuing in a thesis based masters or doctoral program.

Recipient Selection:

• Departmental, faculty, or program area recommendation

• Academic achievement

• Demonstrated research potential, as determined by the relevant department, faculty, or program area.

• Other factors may be assessed such as relevant work/volunteer/leadership experience

Application

• No application is required.

• Selection is competed at the time of admission by the applicable Graduate Program Committee.

Renewal

• Renewal is contingent upon maintaining registration in the program for which it was awarded.

NOTES:

• Students are permitted to hold the ULGRA concurrently with any Graduate Assistantship position (as per the GSA Collective Agreement) and/or stipend.

• Students are permitted to hold the ULGRA at full value concurrently with other awards, scholarships.
