Scholarships at Wilfrid Laurier University

Competitive scholarships are granted based on a combination of academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities such as volunteer work or involvement in campus sports or clubs. These scholarships are available to all students in any year of study.

Instead of applying for specific awards, we have created the student profile(s) for Laurier students. By completing the profile(s), you are applying to all awards offered to Laurier students.

The online student profiles:

• Open in late summer and close early fall each year.

• Are open to all undergraduate and graduate students, including all full- and part-time students and international students. 

• Helps us determine if you are eligible for a competitive scholarship, award or donor-supported bursary. 

• Completing the financial statement section isn't mandatory, however many award opportunities have a "financial need" component.

You are automatically assessed for an entrance scholarship when you apply to Laurier and are offered based on your admission average. No application required.

Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 Scholarships

Important Notes

• Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and BBA double-degree students are now eligible for entrance scholarships with an admission average of 80% and higher.

• The scholarship for the admission average of 95.0 - 100% is the President's Gold Scholarship.

• You must be registered full time (2.0 credits minimum per term) to receive the full entrance scholarship amount and you must be registered in two terms within your first academic year. At Laurier, an academic year is from September to August.

• The value of your entrance scholarship is split between your first two terms of study.

The in-course scholarship program recognizes academic excellence by assessing your marks taken at Laurier that were attained in the previous academic year. You do not have to apply for an in-course scholarship.

To be eligible for assessment you must be:

• Full-time undergraduate student leading to a recognized degree,

• Not in the first year of your program, and

• You must meet all elgibility requirements listed below.

Successful recipients are notified by email once grades have been finalized for the appropriate term or year of study.

The value of in-course scholarships are listed below and are subject to change.

In-Course Scholarship Grid

Amounts of $500 are applied in full to fees for the next full-time academic term. Amounts more than $500 are applied equally to fees for the next two full-time academic terms.

Eligibility

To be eligible for in-course scholarships, you must meet the following eligibility requirements: 

• You are registered in a full-time course load over two, full-time academic terms in the current academic year, with Laurier as your home institution. 

• You have completed a minimum of 5.0 full credits in the previous fall, winter and spring terms (September through August). 

  • Note: Transfer credits do not count towards these credits.

• You must have completed two full time terms, therefore at least 2.0 credits in minimum two of the three terms in the previous academic year from September through August. (Co-op students may satisfy this requirement in any two of the previous fall, winter or spring terms).

Your GPA is is calculated using all courses taken during the fall, winter and spring terms of the previous academic year (September through August). 

Double-Degree Students

Only students in an approved five-year Honours double degree program are eligible to be considered on year four academic achievement: 

• BBA/BA Financial Mathematics

• BBA/BSc Computer Science

• BBA/Honours Computing and Computer Electronics (UW)

• BBA/Honours Mathematics (Waterloo)

International Exchange Students

International exchange students may be eligible to receive an in-course scholarship.

If applicable, students who participate in an international exchange through Laurier International are encouraged to contact the Student Awards Office upon completion of the exchange to determine eligibility.

Non-Eligible Programs

• Students in the two year Faculty of Education program are not eligible to receive an in-course scholarship.

• Graduate students. Refer to Graduate Funding and Awards for other scholarships and awards you may be eligible for.

Dropping Courses Consequences

If you drop any course and have received any scholarships, awards or bursaries, the amount may be adjusted or revoked.

If your admission average is 95% or higher, we will award you with the President's Gold Scholarship for your first year at Laurier, which is worth $4,000 for domestic students and $6,000 for international students. If you maintain the eligibility requirements, you will receive another $4,000 (domestic) or $6,000 (international) per year for four years (or up to five for some programs).

This scholarship is automatically renewable if you achieve an annual GPA (grade point average) of 10.5 or higher based on the completion of a minimum of 5.0 full credits during the past academic year. Students who receive the President's Gold Scholarship are not eligible to receive in-course scholarships.
