Established in 1995, Royal Roads University is an applied research university that offers courses in management, social and applied sciences and general studies. Around 20% of the student population is international.
When Royal Roads consider an application they look at more than formative education and qualifications. They also look at earned experience and other achievements, meaning students who can display a passion and commitment to succeeding will go far.
Students can choose from 10 undergraduate courses and 24 graduate programs that the University offers. Aside from undergraduate and graduate programs, the University also offers graduate diplomas and doctoral degrees. A CTET (Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies) has been established to develop courses and learning technologies for students. Approximately 70% of the students studying in blended and online programs work while learning.
International students are provided with immigration advice and a letter of support to complete the immigration paperwork. Career advice and learning strategy tips are offered to those who require them. Student consultation services are given to students who need guidance on general wellness and mental health. Accessibility services are also provided to disabled students.
The students can arrange ferry services through Beaton’s Meet and Greet before they arrive in Victoria. Orientation services include a student cafe forum where the students can discuss their issues and experiences with other new students.
On-campus accommodation at Royal Roads is available only for a short or temporary stay. During a short stay, students can purchase meals from the Habitat Cafe.
For longer accommodation, international students can choose a homestay family. Comfortable housing and meals are provided to the students by a homestay family once they are matched with them through the Canada Homestay Network. 59 dormitories and 33 ensuite single rooms are offered to the students inside the campus.
Royal Roads University campus is located only 25 minutes away from Downtown Victoria. Popularly known as Hatley Park, the University campus also houses a vast fairytale castle which has been used in several documentaries and movies.
The University campus comprises gardens and hiking locations home to several birds and animals. Students can move around on the campus through cycles or transit buses. A shared door-to-door transit service is provided to disabled students through HandyDART.
