Mount Allison University (MtA) is an undergraduate liberal arts university in Sackville, New Brunswick. It was founded in 1839 and became the first university in British Empire to award a baccalaureate to a woman by the name of Grace Annie Lockhart in 1875.
Like other liberal arts colleges in North America, MtA does not participate in rankings based on research, such as the QS University Rankings. But Mount Allison has been ranked the top undergraduate university nationally 23 times in the past 32 years by Maclean’s Magazine, which is an unmatched record.
The University offers around 53 minor, major, and honours programs in various fields, such as applied physics, art history, business, astronomy, aviation, and much more. Graduates from the university have been awarded 55 Rhodes Scholarships, the highest per capita of any educational institution in the British Commonwealth.
Mount Allison attracts students from all parts of the world, most of whom are full-time students. The university also has several visiting and exchange students, including those taking up the Mount Allison Summer Semester in English (MASSIE) program. Before starting their academic journey, students are given an International Orientation to settle them better.
Once part of the University, students can take advantage of Mount Allison’s International Centre to learn more about the educational and exchange programs, apart from getting all the support and information needed to have a successful academic career. Staff at the International Centre foster the growth of a multicultural and internationally-engaged campus through services, events, and programs that bond the students well.
With more than 85% of first-year students living on campus, the Mount Allison Residential area is the place to live, learn and work. Providing a safe, supportive and convenient housing option, Mount Allison has a range of unique residences to choose from. Meal plans are included in the residence packages at the University to ensure flexibility and convenience for any schedule.
The principal residences are- Bennett House, Bigelow House, Campbell Hall, Edwards House, Hunton House, Thornton House, and Windsor Hall. Apart from these options, students can also stay in small residential communities. All the houses have different variations of rooms with single, double, and triple occupancy.
Mount Allison has a beautiful and historically rich campus on the Tantramar marshes in the heart of Sackville, New Brunswick. Being on the East Coast, the small city of Sackville is welcoming of the students who are considered part of the community at large by an exchange of opportunities to mingle from both sides.
Sackville is an ideal university town located at the centre of the Maritimes. The campus is situated at a location that makes it easy for the students to connect with the urban city spaces as well as the beauty of nature that is present in the form of lakes, rivers, and outdoor spaces that can be explored to refresh the mind.
The airport closest to the city is the Greater Moncton International Airport (YQM/CYQM), which is just 40 km away.
