Memorial University of Newfoundland, also known as Memorial University (MUN) is a public university that is located in St. John’s, in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It also has satellite campuses in Corner Brook, Saint Pierre, and Harlow, England. The University was established in 1925 and today, it is the largest university in Atlantic Canada.
The University offers over 100 degree programs and more than 90 professional development courses and certificate programs at diploma, certificate, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level. It is also the only university in Newfoundland and Labrador, giving it a special obligation to the residents of the province. It was established as a memorial to the people of the province who lost their lives on active service during the First World War.
Memorial University has more than 3,400 international students enrolled hailing from around 110 countries. It also has faculty and staff members from other countries. The University is committed to international co-operation, cultural sensitivity, student mobility and internationalization, and over 125 exchange programs with educational institutions from more than 40 countries are available.
Memorial offers its students a broad range of nationally recognized professional and academic support programs. The Internationalization Office at the University is always ready to support the students with everything they need to settle at Memorial. With the International Student Groups, one gets the opportunity to be a part of a cooperative international community of students.
MUN has different residence options available for its students. The Burton’s Pond Apartments on St. Johns Campus are great for independent living and for students with dependents, designated family units are also available. It is just a 10-minute walk from the main campus and all the major utilities, including WiFi are available at the residence. The apartments are fully-furnished and the complex has mail boxes, a laundry room and access to the Internationalization Office.
Students can also go for off-campus living around the areas close to the University. Most graduate students choose to live off-campus as there is a better variety in the housing options, and the cost is low as compared to the other major cities. The University, however, doesn't take responsibility for processing, and students are advised to take care of the leasing and agreements on their own discretion.
Memorial University has its main campus in St. John’s, in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Other campuses of the university are situated in Corner Brook, Saint Pierre, and Harlow, England. Memorial is one of the two Universities in Canada who have their campus in the United Kingdom.
The nearest airport to the main campus is the St. John’s International Airport.
