Laurentian University, officially known as the Laurentian University of Sudbury, is a mid-sized bilingual university located in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. It was incorporated in 1960 and is Canada’s only university with a tricultural mandate. The university offers programs specialising in diverse fields such as social sciences, arts, technology, natural sciences, mining, engineering, health, geophysics, business management, finance, and forensics.

Accommodation

The Laurentian Residence has five buildings with different sizes, shapes, layouts and furnishings. First-year students get the chance to stay in the on-campus accommodation with plenty of options to choose from. The prominent residence options for all students are- University College Residence (traditional dormitory style building accommodating 240 students), Single Student Residence (apartments with a capacity to hold 387 students), West Residence (self-contained apartments), East Residence, Mature Student Residence (one bedroom style apartment living).

All residence options are secure with 24*7 surveillance and staff support, free internet and wireless connections, laundry facilities, computer labs, photocopying, study lounges and TV rooms. The apartments have kitchens, living rooms and other facilities as well. Students also get access to a fresh marche-style dining experience.

About Location

The University’s main campus is situated on the southern side of Ramsey Lake, which is south of Greater Sudbury’s downtown core. Students can take advantage of the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area’s network of trails for running, mountain biking and nordic skiing. As the University is part of a city whose primary industry is mining, Laurentian has strong ties with the mining industry, which also led to the offering of a mining engineering program.

The airports closest to Sudbury with scheduled international flights are Toronto Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) and Toronto Island Airport (CYTZ).
