Alexander College is a private post-secondary educational institution located in Burnaby and Vancouver, British Columbia. It was established under the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education in 2006 and is a participant in the BC Transfer System organized by the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT).
Striving for excellence in higher education, Alexander College attracts around 3,000 students annually from different regions and cultural backgrounds. The various programs at the college have been designed to help first, and second-year undergraduate students achieve success in their academic transition to the post-secondary education environment.
The college currently offers undergraduate degree and transfer programs, which include the University Transfer. These were a part of the initial programs that the college offered. Later, Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees became a part of the education programs. The college also provides an integrated English for Academic Purposes program to assist non-native English-speaking students in transitioning to university-level English language studies.
Alexander College takes pride in being a multicultural community of students from different countries by providing internationally recognized university transfer courses and degree programs. The student support services and campus activities can foster local and global community engagement among students.
To know more about the various services available, one must attend the New Student Orientation on campus, wherein a meetup with the staff and instructors happens each year. International students can also join various clubs and organizations related to sports and other activities to make their academic journey all the more worthwhile at Alexander College.
All international students must take up British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan to gain access to comprehensive public healthcare. Alexander College also has a Registered Clinical Counselor, with whom students can take up to 10 free on-site Health and Wellness Counseling Sessions to discuss any mental health issues they might face.
Due to the proximity to urban spaces, Alexander College doesn’t provide on-campus housing to the students. But that aspect has been compensated with campus locations being close to major public transport systems, which leads to shorter commuting times.
The Homestay option is one of the best ways to familiarise oneself with Canadian culture while living with a family that is welcoming in its approach for international students. According to the law in British Columbia, if a student is below 19 years of age, they need to stay in the Homestay system with a local guardian. Students above the age of 19 years can take up independent or shared rental apartments in and around the campus areas.
The college has two urban campuses, Burnaby and Vancouver, in British Columbia. Both these campuses are central to public transport options students can take to get around the local areas. The Burnaby campus can be accessed via Metrotown Skytrain station, and the Vancouver campus is right by the Waterfront Skytrain station. As Vancouver is a multicultural hub, students get the best of experiences when mingling with students from other countries. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the closest airport to the campuses.
