Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP), formerly known as Red Deer College, is a public comprehensive polytechnic institute located in Red Deer, Alberta. Established in 1964, the institution remained a college, and in June 2018, it was given the ability to grant out bachelor’s degrees. In 2021, the institution became a regional polytechnic institution for Alberta. The educational institution has approximately 7,500 students in credit programs and 10,000 in non-credit programming.
RDP offers diplomas, certificates, advanced certificates, bachelor’s degrees, applied degrees, academic upgrading and apprenticeship in more than 75 different career and educational programs, including the creative and liberal arts, trades and engineering. With two campuses, Red Deer Polytechnic is a vibrant gathering place in the community with impressive facilities where students can learn, work, conduct research and enjoy the events held year-round.
With various academic programmes ranging from months to four years, Red Deer Polytechnic has many options for international students to pursue their post-secondary education. All international students must take up a health insurance plan during their stay in Canada. The Red Deer Polytechnic International Division enrols all the students in an affordable basic health insurance plan through guard.me.
If students want to stay on-campus, they must note that in their application. Apart from the on-campus residence, students can choose to stay off-campus in their accommodation settings or opt for Canada Homestay Network (CHN), which allows them to live in warm and welcoming homestays to feel supported during their study program.
More than 650 students make RDP Residence their home annually. Student housing options are available in single, double and quadruple occupancy systems in townhouse-style living, apartment-style and studio suite-style variations. There are options for low, medium, and high-budget accommodation for single living and family set-ups. Wheelchair-accessible housing is also available with single and double occupancy. All the residences have WiFi and parking facilities, along with different options for kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms and storage facilities.
The main campus of RDP is located in the city of Red Deer, which is midway between the larger cities of Calgary and Edmonton. This campus features a library, a bar, a restaurant, and Tim Hortons, Starbucks, among other food-related businesses. Another institution's campus is situated in the downtown Red Deer area, which features a stage, movie theatre and art gallery space. The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, which features an ice arena, a performance gymnasium, squash courts, a fitness centre, running tracks and a massive court surface for volleyball or basketball matches, is also a part of the institution.
Students from international locations can reach Red Deer either via Edmonton (YEG) Airport or Calgary (YYC) Airport, which are over 100 km away from the city of Red Deer.
