The Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology (commonly known as Northern College) is located in Northern Ontario and has four campuses which are situated in Timmins, Moosonee, Kirkland Lake, and Temiskaming Shores. The annual enrollment of the college is around 1500 full-time students.
The college was established in 1967, during the formation of Ontario's college system. This initiative was undertaken by the provincial government to basically create educational institutions that could provide career-oriented diploma and certificate courses, along with the options of continuing education programs to communities in Ontario. Today it offers more than 75 full-time, part-time, diploma, certificate and online correspondence and apprenticeship programs.
Information regarding services provided to international students at Northern College can be found at the International Office, which provides registration support, letters for a study permit extension and graduation letters, the MORCARE health insurance, immigration, and student recruitment and marketing.
The College is also known to give out the highest number of scholarships, bursaries and awards in the province of Ontario to international students. People arriving from other countries to pursue education at Northern College are also given the option to stay in the on-campus residences.
The two major options for residence available to the students at Northern College are Timmins Campus Residence and the Haileybury Campus Residence.
The Timmins Campus Residence has a large, bright common kitchen with 5 cooking stations, lounges with cable TV, laundry facilities and a games room. This residence has 103 single rooms, 12 suites and 4 double rooms. All the rooms have a phone, cable and internet connection, private bathroom, closet, desk, chair and drawers.
The Haileybury campus residence is a privately owned and operated building just steps from the main college building. It can house 64 people in its 16 attractive townhouse-style apartments. Each apartment has four bedrooms, with two bathrooms, a living area and a kitchen.
Northern College is beautifully situated in the Northern Ontario region and has four major campuses that are located in Timmins, Moosonee, Kirkland Lake, and Temiskaming Shores.
