Canada extends post-graduation work permits for international students

New measures announced by the Canadian government have stated that international graduates with expired work permits in 2022 and 2023 can extend their work authorization for another 18 months.

Canada's employers are currently facing challenges in finding and also retaining the workers they need during this period of economic recovery after the pandemic and this move will help boost the economy and allow Canada to retain high-skilled talent.

The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, said of the change: “We need to use every tool in our toolbox to support employers who continue to face challenges in hiring the workers they need to grow.

"At the same time, we’re providing international graduates whose work permit is expiring or has expired with some additional time to stay in Canada to gain valuable work experience and potentially qualify to become a permanent resident.”
